[Teacher Diaries] Conversation about Landmarks

I had a class with a student about how landmarks help people learn about a country's history. She talked about Sun Zhongshan a.k.a Sun Yat-Sen's Memorial Hall that can be found in their city. So I asked her, "Why is Sun Zhongshan important in your country that they even made a memorial Hall for him?"

She said, "Teacher, when Sun Zhongshan was a little boy, he saw how his sister was in so much pain because of the footbinding practice in China before. So, when he became president, he outlawed the footbinding practice."

Curious, I searched about it. How painful it must have been for these women to have their feet bound and force their feet in these small shoes!

What's more surprising is how some Chinese women still willingly/voluntarily continue this practice.
