A Day Trip to Yamagata

It's a holiday today in Japan. Crystal and I went to Yamagata with Akhe. Her JET friends (also from our batch, one from South Africa and another from the USA) promised to show us around their city.

While walking around the city, we saw a cute statue of a chipmunk. I took a picture of it because it reminded me of Stray Kids's Han (HanQuokka). haha

Most shops were closed since it's a holiday but, we found a very cozy cafe near a cinema. The food was delicious and the ambiance was great, too. After lunch, we went to a park (a few minutes walk from the cafe and no entrance fee hoho).

While we were on our way out we saw the former Saiseikan Hospital. Beyond serving the local community's needs as both a prefectural and later a municipal hospital, Saiseikan is celebrated as an exemplary work of "giyofu" (imitative Western-style) architecture from the early Meiji period. It was designated a National Important Cultural Property in 1966. I took many pictures of the inside but I somehow forgot which folder in my gdrive I saved them. I'll have to look for them and update this blog again.

Crystal said she wanted to go to the restroom so we went inside another museum to see if we can go in for free but there is an entrance fee (not too expensive though). We paid and went in. I looked around while I waited for her to join me after her restroom break, and saw many historical artifacts and various fossils. My favorites of course are the gems.

Our last stop was the Observatory just near Yamagata Station. The view up there was beautiful! There was a girl who was playing the piano (yep there was a piano up the observatory).
