The Final Demonstration of Student Teachers is probably one of the most important time in the lives of STs. I can still remember how much blood, sweat and tears were shed because of it.
I am very lucky though since I have very talented and helpful group of friends. Whenever there is someone in the group who would be having his final demo, all of us help in preparing for it. My frieds and I usually stay up late at night, either at school ( Sir Mac's hide out) or one of our friends home to finish the visual aids. On the day of the Demo, we also help them set up the Visuals, golders Lesson Plans and evaluation sheets and also buy food for observers.
I didn't ask for help from my critic teachers. too. I felt that If I ask them, I will just add to their burdens so I just normally ask my friends to help me out. The students also did.
In my case, I wanted to help my student teacher out, but he didn't ask for help. He also didn't ask me for advice, so I thought everything is already good to go.
His demo-teaching is good, but can still be improved, especially the visual aids. My previous student teachers, even in regular classes taught as if it's their demo. However, with my current ST, I have observed that his waterloo is his visual aides. The font, the color of the cartolina he uses, etc. I think I've written it quite a number of times already on his observation notebook. I even message him about it. I told him to improve his visuals, work on his visuals.
The 21st century students are mostly audio-visual learners, so it is must that you use pictures and videos in your lessons. They are also very hyper so instead of always just shouting at them make use of their energy and put a game in your lesson. I love doing games. Before, I even had a pageant activity just for Conditionals Lesson. lol. The kids enjoyed if a lot. They were able to feel what it's like to join a pageant and answer nerve wracking Miss Universe questions.
You have to make it fun to for the students to learn. They learn more when they are having fun.
Although, lately, I've been really lacking as well. I got so comfortable and lax that I dont even think of different activities for my lessons. Before, I still modify my lesson plan. Now, I only recycle. I've been reflecting and scolding myself because of it. lol
