First Set of Reporters

Topic reporting is probably one of the most common strategies teachers nowadays use in order to develop the students' speaking, comprehension, and creativity skills.

Since I was originally from the year 7 faculty, it is very uncommon that we ask students to report. I have been spoon feeding my previous kids from day 1 up until this year. So I thought, why not try having them report the topics themselves?

After all, I was also a product of this strategy. When I was still a high school student in Rizal High School (Main Campus), I was very timid. Being a kid from the province, I was too shy that whenever I had to report in front, I tremble and used a very, very soft voice. Iremember my Filipino teacher when I was in second grade yelling at me to not murmur. Haha.

From then on I started to become more confident as the year pass by. I hated it, if I may say, is an understatement. Even now, I am a kind of person who do not want the spotlight for herself. I work hard in the background, quietly but surely. I'm a self-proclaimed introvert. I like working alone. But, I can still work with a group if I try and want to.

Going back to letting the students report, so far I was satisfied with how the first reporter in 11-Lambda made an effort to really give an interactive activity, beginning with the vocabulary building part. He was creative too by using that fries for each unfamiliar word in the selection. He was able to explain the gist of it, too, without much help from me. So I was a bit disappointed when the other sections didn't exert an effort.

For the next set of reporters I will look forward to how they will present their topics in the most creative way, where their classmates can learn in a fun way.

I remember a Benjamin Franklin quotation my professor loved to tell us, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."
