A former colleague visited me in Sendai, with her daughter. They were in Japan as her graduation gift for her. We planned to meet in Tokyo and go to Disney but I have work and couldn't take a leave since it's a busy week.
I waited for them in front of the stained glass at Sendai Station. It was still really early, so many shops had yet to open. From where I was standing, I could see everyone rushing in to catch their trains or heading out to start a long work day. And as I people-watch, I saw two familiar figures on their way down the escalator. I started walking towards them and welcomed them in Sendai.
They left Tokyo early so I suggested we have breakfast first. We had ramen at Ichiran. It was a little salty compared to when I went there by myself.
I don't usually go out so I am not used to communicating outside of my usual routes so I feel so sorry for them when we wasted so much time finding our way to the right exit at Kita-sendai. We went to see the Daikanon, the 6th tallest statue in the world. Before it was the no. 1 tallest, but as years went by, other newly built statues took the throne.
@doremianch Visited Sendai Daikannon with ma'am Honey and Hannah. 🥰 The Daikannon statue in Sendai is currently the fifth tallest statue in the world. Its importance is not just about the massive size and the unique skyline it gives to the Sendai panorama, but it’s also about the religious and cultural meaning of the monument. It represents the Japanese Buddhist bodhisattva, a Goddess which embodies the concept of compassion in the Japanese Buddhism. At the statue’s grand floor, you can find other 33 smaller statues, representing all the other forms the Daikannon can take. Visitors can take the elevator to the top and then descend using the stairwell. The inner part of the statues contains 108 Buddha statues, representing each a different human emotion or desire. We went back to the city center after seeing the Daikannon and the many statues inside it. Then, we had lunch at a Chinese Restaurant at the station. It was such a big serving for a very affordable price. I couldn't finish all of it.
