Celebration of World Teachers Day Year 2017 with 11- Lambda and 11- Sigma

It's been 5 years, 18 days, 19 hours, 49 minutes, and 20 seconds since I first worked as a public school teacher in the Division of Mandaluyong. Who would've thought I'd last this long? I have come to the point that I question whether choosing this field is the best path for me. So much has happened in the last months that kept me thinking of abandoning my sworn profession. I won't go into details anymore. I only have the future to finalize my thoughts.

My students.

They are one of the reasons I couldn't let go of working in public school. They may be quite naughty and sometimes give me a headache my coffee can't cure, but they are still the sweetest.

11-Lambda prepared a poem for all their teachers and also gave us certificates (which I find really cute. Haha. Usually, we give the top of their classes certificates, but now we are the ones receiving it from them lol) it was simple, yet heartwarming. Thank you, Lambda!

I was not expecting anything from my advisory class since I haven't been such a great adviser to them. I got sick recently and had to take almost two months off to rest after being hospitalized and undergoing a medical procedure. I wasn't that close to them compared to my previous advisory classes. We didn't have much time to have some bonding time. So I was not really expecting to receive anything from them. I totally understand, and so I just stayed in the faculty room to chat with co-teachers after that event with Lambda.

A few hours later, my class president, with her classmate, asked me to go to our classroom with them. They blindfolded me when we arrived on the fourth floor. I don't enjoy being in the dark or even closing my eyes. I can't even sleep with my lights on (which my dad turns off once he checks that I'm already fast asleep).

When I opened my eyes, I was surprised to see what they had prepared for their FBS teacher and me. They, one by one, offered a message to me. All of them wished me good health. I'm not really good at speaking impromptu, especially if it isn't related to English at all. So when they asked me to also give a message, the first thing I said, "Ayoko ng madilim... (I don't like being kept in the dark)." haha

So I'm going to just write down my thoughts here.

To my dearest bunso 11-Sigma,

First, thank you for remembering me and making an effort to celebrate teacher's day with me. Thank you for understanding my situation, especially when I had to take a leave of absence to recuperate. I remember one of you said, "It's okay ma'am. Just take a rest and get well." I wanted to come to school as soon as possible, so I asked my doctor if I can already report to work after two weeks, and he said yes, so I was ecstatic.

The time I can already go back to work has arrived. However, I guess mind over matter didn't work on me. I was so dizzy I could barely lift my head up, so I had to ask my brother to pick me up and go home. The doctor advised taking another month to be sure I am really well and won't be too weak to report back to work.

Thank you for not giving me too much headache and for being responsible students. When you had the Variety Show for Oral Communication, I was so proud I heard good feedback from your teacher and from other students. When you had your defense for your thesis in Filipino, I knew how rattled you all were. I prayed for wisdom and for him to give you the confidence to defend your thesis. I was very happy to hear y'all passed. Your hard work paid off. I hope that you continue to do your best in all that you do and that when one of you is having a hard time, you learn to help another. We still have half a year together, and I hope to see y'all grow to be the best you can be.

Thank you for the well wishes and for the thoughtful letters. I will keep them in my treasure box forever. Even when the ink fades, the words written there will remain in my heart.

Ma'am Iglesia
